Saturday's Saving Tips - Save for College with Upromise

Upromise is a free service that helps you get money for college bills and student loans from the things you do all the time: buy groceries, shop online, fill your gas tank and much more. It harnesses the purchasing power of parents, extended family, family, and students to make it easier to pay for college. Members direct their spending to Upromise partners—including more than 800 online stores, 8,000+ restaurants, thousands of grocery and drugstore items—and earn money for college. Everyone can earn money for college.

Parents with young children; family and friends that want to contribute; students and graduates with eligible student loans to pay. Many members have earned hundreds even thousands of dollars for college with their everyday spending, and have been able to use those earnings to contribute toward college tuition, expenses, or loans–quicker and easier. You can even choose to invest your earnings in a high-yield savings account or tax-deferred 529 plan; use it to pay down a student loan; or request a check that can be used for college or other expenses.

I've earned with Upromise by simply linking my Winn-Dixie Reward Card and getting a Publix Upromise Card.  I save with e-coupons and earn a percentage back on participating products!  And all I'm doing is buying groceries!

This month, they are offering college savings cash back on Bertolli Frozen Dinners, Charmin Bath Tissue, Suave body wash, Degree, Bounty and so much more!  I activated $20 worth of e-coupons!  If the right deals come along, this could be a great month for college savings!

I've saved $15 in a year for my son's college.  I know it doesn't seem like much, but he's only 2.  And this is not money out of my pocket!  It's merely from activating e-coupons and purchasing the corresponding products.

You simply link up any participating store loyalty cards you have (I have Winn-Dixie Rewards, CVS Extra Care and the Publix upromise card).  You can load e-coupons onto the card each month (for example, $1 when you buy Bounty Paper Towels).  When you make that purchase with one of the store loyalty cards you get that amount put into your savings.  Certain percentages of participating brands are automatically put into your savings when you purchase them using your linked cards as well.

UPromise

Me and my little guy are going to be headed to Winn-Dixie this morning to get a few things.  I was thankful for the e-mail from UPromise this morning me reminding me that it was a new month and time to load NEW coupons to my store cards!

When you sign up for UPromise you link your grocery store cards to your UPromise account.  Every month you activate coupons.  When you buy those products and use your store card, you get money put into an account for your kid(s) college!  What an easy way to save a little extra money for college!  You also get a certain percentage of your grocery purchase banked into your account for buying products the support UPromise.  Ever noticed the UPromise logo - a blue U with a graduation cap on - on any of the products you buy?  Those products could be helping you save for college!

I have my Winn-Dixie Rewards Card, CVS Extra Care Card and Publix UPromise card all linked to my UPromise account.

This isn't just for parents either!  Grandparents, aunts & uncles, godparents, etc, can set up an account benefiting the special child(ren) in your life!

Don't waste another minute.  Join UPromise today!

Cellfire

Have you heard of Cellfire? You register your store loyalty cards with Cellfire then you select the coupons you want. When you scan your card at the store, it deducts the coupons from your order (provided you purchase the item(s)). How neat is that?
Unfortunately, none of the stores around ME are a part of Cellfire. But if you live near a Kroger, Dillon's, Safeway, Baker's, Carr's, Tom Thumb, Ralph's or about a dozen other stores, you should definitely check out Cellfire! Hopefully this will expand to other stores soon!
While we're talking about store loyalty cards and technology, have you registered your store cards with UPromise? This works on CVS and Winn-Dixie cards as well as others. It's the same concept as Cellfire - you register your card(s), select your coupons and scan your card at the store. But instead of having the "coupons" take money off your order, it puts a set amount into a college savings fund for your child(ren)! There are MANY ways to take advantage of UPromise's saving plan and put money away for college without taking a dime out of your pocket. Be sure to check them out today!

UPromise

Have you heard about Upromise? It's been around for a while. I just joined a few months ago.

Upromise is a one-stop college service provider that helps can help you earn, save and pay for higher education. With Upromise, you can automatically save money for college while making everyday purchases at grocery and drug stores, gas stations, restaurants, retail stores and online shopping sites. Upromise’s partners include ExxonMobil Corporation, JCPenney.com, LandsEnd.com, Sears.com, and hundreds of others.

My favorite feature of Upromise are the coupons that you can link directly to your store loyalty cards. CVS and Winn-Dixie are the ones I use. Even though Publix doesn't have a store card, you can get a UPromise card at Publix to scan when you shop to get credit on your Publix purchases. Each month you visit UPromise and link the coupons you want to your store cards. These coupons do not take money off your purchase, instead they put the money in your Upromise account. For example, if I had a coupon on my Upromise account for 50c/Beechnut item and I went to Winn-Dixie and purchased a Beech-Nut item, I would get 50c in my Upromise account. If I purchased 2 items, I would get $1, etc.

I've earned $10 in the last 4 months. Doesn't seem like much, but if I continue at that rate (assuming that I don't increase my usage of Upromise) that would be $30/year. That will be $500+ once my son starts college! You can't tell me that won't come in handy 17 years from now! And the great thing about it is, it's not coming out of my pocket! It's FREE money!

If you have a baby right now and you purchase Beech-Nut products I would definitely join. Beech-Nut is a Upromise partner. You get a percentage of everything you spend on their products back into you account, not to mention what you earn in their coupons too.

You can also link credit/debit cards to your account to earn from purchases made from participating retailers and you can earn by shopping at participating online retailers through the Upromise site. You can also link 'guests' (like grandparents maybe?) to the account so when they spend, you earn!

I would definitely check out Upromise to see all the ways you can save!
